Key expressway construction starts in Guangdong

Construction work on a 74-km expressway started Wednesday in south China's Guangdong Province.

Construction work on a 74-km expressway started Wednesday in south China's Guangdong Province.

At cost of 2.16 billion yuan (260 million US dollars), the expressway, which runs through several towns and counties in Guangdong, is a section of the expressway trunk linking Zhanjiang,a coastal city in Guangdong, and the municipality of Chongqing in the southwest of the country.

The Guangdong section has been scheduled for completion by the end of 2005. It will benefit the investment environment in the west of Guangdong province and is helpful to increased cooperationbetween Guangdong and neighboring Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
