Two new expressways to link Beijing, Tianjin

Beijing and Tianjin Municipality signed an agreement Thursday to build two new expressways between the two cities.

Beijing and Tianjin Municipality signed an agreement Thursday to build two new expressways between the two cities.

The signing ceremony was attended by Liu Qi, secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Beijing Municipal Committee, Zhang Lichang, secretary of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee, Wang Qishan, acting mayor of Beijing, and Dai Xianglong, mayor of Tianjin.

The proposal has been approved by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Communication.

At the moment there is one expressway linking the two cities.

Construction of the two new highway links is expected to start in the first half of 2004.
