Chinese team begins work on Moscow fire aftermath

A joint working team from China's Foreign Ministry and Education Ministry arrived here Thursday afternoon on a mission to deal with the aftermath issues of last Monday's fire at the Patrice Lumumba People's Friendship University in Moscow.

A joint working team from China's Foreign Ministry and Education Ministry arrived here Thursday afternoon on a mission to deal with the aftermath issues of last Monday's fire at the Patrice Lumumba People's Friendship University in Moscow.

The three-member team began by visiting injured students now receiving treatment in Moscow's No. 1 hospital.

Team leader Cen Jianjun told Xinhua that his team is urging Russian officials to do everything possible to minimize the suffering of the students and speed their recovery.

They will also ask their Russian counterparts to make proper arrangements for the fire-stricken students and their visiting relatives.

The fire killed 37 students and injured 200. According to the Chinese Embassy in Moscow, seven of the dead and 43 of the injuredwere Chinese. Six Chinese students are still missing.
