Heads of flooded mine dismissed

The director and deputy director of the Shilian Coal Mine were dismissed for malfeasance that caused the flooding of part of the mine on July 26 in Jishui County, east China's Jiangxi Province.

The director and deputy director of the Shilian Coal Mine were dismissed for malfeasance that caused the flooding of part of the mine on July 26 in Jishui County, east China's Jiangxi Province.

Altogether 12 persons died in the accident, with economic losses estimated at 650,000 yuan (79,000 US dollars)

The punishment was announced in an official document issued by the State Administration of Coal Mine Safety.

Director Luo Quanshui and Deputy Director Yang Jinde of the state-owned coal mine were dismissed for failing to ensure efficient safety measures, the document reads.

Four other officials of the coal mine and two of the county economic committee that oversees the mine were given a demerit, and the mine administration was fined 50,000 yuan (6,040 US dollars).

The mine accident was attributed to the absence of underground water detection equipment and improper direction.
