Made-in-China cars exported to Australia

The first of 600 Polo sedans Shanghai Volkswagen Corporation produces for Australia rolled off the production line Friday.

According to a five-year contract, Shanghai Volkswagen will sell 600 three-compartment Polo sedans to Australia each year, at a price of 113,800 to 140,000 yuan (13,750 to 16,910 US dollars) per unit, the same as that at the Chinese market, said Chen Zhixin,general manager of Shanghai Volkswagen.

E. H. Folker Weibgerber, an official with Volkswagen of Germany,said that the export deal offers a good chance to test the overseas popularity of Volkswagen automobiles made in China.

Polo is a compact model, and so far over 70,000 units have been sold in China.
