Russian skinheads attacked about 10 foreign students at the People's Friendship University in Moscow, injuring six of the them, the Itar-Tass news agency said on Sunday.

The attack, which happened late Saturday evening near a hostel of the blaze-striken university, caused several serious injuries, the news agency said.

The victims' nationalities were still unknown.

Local police have detained nine people in connection with the attack and all of them were between the ages of 15 and 18.

In recent years, foreign students in Moscow have often become targets of racist attacks.

Early Monday, the People's Friendship University witnessed a fire tragedy, which has already killed 38 foreign students and hospitalized another 157. The university was built in 1960 to offer curriculums to students from developing countries.

The victims are mostly from Asian and African countries.
