Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has urged the State Development and Reform Commission (SDRC), the leading body responsible for China's economic development planning, to work to avoid great ups and downs in the national economic development.

Wen expressed the requirement in a recent comment on the commission's work, asking the commission to keep the national economy on a stable track, and try to protect and guide the working enthusiasm of all social sectors.

The commission should adhere to the central authorities guidelines, Wen emphasized.

The premier asked the commission to employ economic and legal means to conduct a better macro-regulation over the national economy and take decisive measures when sudden problems come up.

On Monday, the commission held a national work meeting on development and reform. Ma Kai, minister in charge of SDRC, said China's economy is expected to grow 8.5 percent this year.
