Deng Pufang deserves UN prize: FM

President of the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) Deng Pufang, who won the 2003 United Nations Prize in Field of Human Rights, deserves the prize, Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said Wednesday at a congratulatory speech for Deng.

President of the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) Deng Pufang, who won the 2003 United Nations Prize in Field of Human Rights, deserves the prize, Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said Wednesday at a congratulatory speech for Deng.

Deng has devoted himself to improving the lives of China's disabled people and protecting their human rights, and contributed greatly to improving the situation of the disabled people, Liu said.

Deng also actively advocated international cooperation in protecting the rights and interests of disabled people, and made consistent efforts to improve the situation and protect the rightsand interests of disabled people across the world, Liu said.

The prize is both an appreciation of Deng's achievements, and an affirmation of China's efforts in promoting and protecting human rights, Liu said.
