German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said Wednesday in Guangzhou that he had decided to visit China once a year since sound relations were based on sound, regular communications.

In his speech at Zhongshan University in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province, Schroeder used the words "close and trustful" to describe cooperation between China and Germany.

Regular dialogs in politics make bilateral cooperation closely interwoven and set a solid foundation for mutual trust, said Schroeder.

He said there was no limitation for China and Germany to cooperate in technology and the two sides aimed to share the opportunities that globalization had brought.

Schroeder also encouraged Chinese students to study in Germany, saying the study there is tuition-free and some 300 inter-college partnerships had been set up.

He said that during the two world wars, Germany had hurt other nationalities including the Jews, and to apologize for it was not enough and Germany should learn from history.

He said he hoped to witness a magnanimous Germany, a member of the international community and the United Nations, a nation which does not reject but communicates with other cultures.

Schroeder arrived in Beijing Monday morning for a four-day official visit to China at the invitation of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.

He left here for Chengdu Wednesday afternoon, continuing his visit to China.
