India's MIG-29 fighter aircraft crashes

A MIG-29 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed on Thuesday near Adampur in Punjab's Hoshiarpur district with the pilot bailing out safely.

A MIG-29 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed on Thuesday near Adampur in Punjab's Hoshiarpur district with the pilot bailing out safely.

The aircraft developed some snag during routine flying and crashed 25 kilometres south-east of the Adampur air-base at 12:43 hours (local time) Thurdsday, an IAF spokesperson said, adding thepilot P. J. Mohammed bailed out to safety.

MIG-29 aircraft have had a good safety record so far with only 2-3 crashes since their induction in late 1980s, according to the Press Trust of India.

IAF has ordered a court of enquiry into the crash.
