China ready to resume embassy work in Baghdad

A special team sent by the Foreign Ministry to Iraq is now waiting for orders in Amman, capital of Jordan, preparing for resuming their work at the embassy in Baghdad. China��s embassy to Baghdad may be protected by armed police in future, reporter from Beijing Youth Daily confirmed the news from the Chinese embassy to Jordan on December 4.

The special team consists of seven people, including staff from commerce department and led by Sun Bigan, a former Chinese ambassador to Iraq. The team arrived at Amman by the end of June. On July 18, Sun led three members of the team to go through the thousand li ��road of death�� linking Amman and Baghdad to enter Iraq. They inspected conditions of the destructed embassy building and contacted Iraqi interim authority. The whole inspection lasted a month and now the team is making preparations in Amman, ready to resume their work in Baghdad once an order is issued.

The situation in Iraq tends to determinate with more frequent explosions, related official say. In addition to occupation army and the current Iraqi authority which supports occupation, foreign delegations and international organizations also bear much risk of being targeted and attacked. Currently there are more than 40 foreign delegations in Baghdad, and pressed by the situation they adopted security measures as bulletproof cars and safe guards according to their national strength and actuarial conditions. Chinese departments concerned are also considering equipping its embassy in Baghdad with armed police, and related ��technological details�� are under discussion.
