Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, returned to Beijing Sunday evening after visiting India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan.

As Jia left Lahore, capital of Punjab Province in Pakistan, for home, Pakistani Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro, Punjab Provincial Assembly Speaker Mohammad Afzal Sahi and Chinese ambassador in Pakistan Zhang Chunxiang saw him off at the airport.

The visit of Jia Qinglin to five countries in South Asia has played an important role in promoting steady and long-term growth of bilateral ties.

Zheng Wantong, secretary-general of the CPPCC National Committee, made the comment during an interview with journalists Sunday on the way back to Beijing.

He said Jia's visit is an important diplomatic move of China this year regarding South Asia, and it has promoted trust, friendship and cooperation between China and these countries.

It has also helped create a favorable environment for China's reform, opening-up and modernization, Zheng said.
