China conducts first air-sea cruise on Yellow, Bohai seas

The Shandong Maritime Bureau, PRC, successfully conducted an air-sea cruise, code-named"Air Cruise-1", on China's Yellow and Bohai sea waters on December 2. This was the first stereoscopic cruise ever carried out by China's maritime department with planes and ships on the above-mentioned waters.

It is reported that the emphasis of this mission was placed on checking and inspecting the navigation situation on the sea in the traffic heavy areas, prohibited areas, and accident-prone areas of the above-said two water regions. Helicopters participating in the mission took off from Qingdao port, Shandong Province, cruising for six hours and covering 650 nautical miles through nine important ports and sea areas, including Haiyang, Shidao, Chengshantou and operation areas in the Yellow and Bohai seas, just naming a few. During the cruise, some ships under Shandong Maritime Bureau cruised to the sea areas and some others anchored at the ports for further order. In the process of cruise, the jets all along kept in contact with the ships. Once any rule-breaking acts are discovered on the sea, the target can immediately be locked in, and ships can adopt measures to check and correct the violation, thus realizing the effective air-sea connection and testing the law-enforcement effect of stereoscopic cruise.

Among the three sea areas in China, the Yellow and Bohai seas are traffic heavy and accident-prone areas. In this air-sea cruise, the tasks for the cruise, including supervising and checking implementation of the regulations on the security management of the sea-lanes, ports and anchorages, the situation relating to navigation, anchoring, operation, and sewage emission of Chinese and foreign ships, as well as above- and under-water construction and the working condition of the water facilities were all fulfilled. It brought about the change from offshore cruise to cruise on the sea areas under China's jurisdiction, at the same time, it broke down the previous single method of land-sea joint monitor of the water area under China's jurisdiction .

As reports say, cruise on the sea is an effective means used by China's maritime law-enforcement department to defend the country's maritime sovereignty and maritime lawful rights and interests, guarantee shipping security and protect the marine environment and exercise effective monitor over the sea areas under China's jurisdiction. It plays a vital role in maintaining navigation order and ensuring shipping safety.
