Yang Wenchang meets US congressional staff delegation

Yang Wenchang, commissioner of China's Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), made the remarks Thursday when meeting with the United States congressional staff delegation, which is visiting Hong Kong after ending a visit to the Chinese mainland.

Since Hong Kong was handed over to China, the policy of "one country, two systems" and "Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong" has been carried out in all sides. The economic, social and legal systems of Hong Kong have not been changed at all, said Yang.

Hong Kong is still the center of international finance, transport and trade. All the rights and freedom of the Hong Kong people have been well protected by laws, he said.

He mentioned that the policy of "one country, two systems" willbe adhered by the central government steadfastly in the future. And the central government will make great efforts to support HongKong's economy and increase Hong Kong's vitality and competitiveness.

He emphasized that Hong Kong is a special administrative regionof China. It is better for the foreigners not to make irresponsible remarks before they see the real situation in Hong Kong by themselves.

He expressed the hope that more members of the Congress of the United States could pay visit to China to further develop the Sino-US relations.
