Japanese PM Koizumi hails China's development
Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi repeated Friday his stance that China's development provides opportunities for neighboring counties.

"We should consider development in China favorably as it will lead to the development of Japan and
ASEAN
," Koizumi said at a press conference after the two-day special summit meeting between Japan and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
He also vowed to continue to push forward relations with the ASEAN, which includes
Brunei

Cambodia
,
Indonesia
,
Laos
,
Malaysia
,
Myanmar
, the Philippines,
Singapore
,
Thailand
and
Vietnam
.
"Our such stance has been welcomed by the ASEAN members," said the prime minister with Indonesian President Megawati beside.
Referring to Japan's pledge to sign the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, Koizumi described it as "an expression of our determination that we will move along with the ASEAN members."
Japan and the ASEAN signed on Friday the Tokyo Declaration for the Dynamic and Enduring Japan-ASEAN Partnership in the New Millennium, under which both sides will make efforts to start talks on a comprehensive economic partnership agreement in 2005 and to have it realized by 2012. Japan also pledged to provide billions of US dollars in aid over the following three years.
