National Audit Office publicizes audit results for first time

The National Audit Office Friday released the outcome of its audit of special funds and donations for the control and treatment of the SARS epidemic, marking the first time for the office to publicize its audit results in China.

By 2007, China will publicize all audit results, excluding those related to state and commercial secrets, an official with the National Audit Office said.

The public release of audit outcome represents an international common practice, the official noted, but China used to only give overall audit accounts to the public at the end of the year.

The new system will help the general public to better supervise the audit work of the government, the official said.
