Key-tech Breakthroughs Made by China for Upgrading Weaponry and Equipment

China has made a series of breakthroughs on the weaponry and equipment in the forefront of defense science and technology said Zhang Yunchuan, director of China Defense Sci-tech Industry. These breakthroughs have enabled China to upgrade its weaponry and defense capability in the monopolized fields of sophisticated sciences and technologies.

On Dec.9 Zhang released the news at China's first conference on defense science and technology in his keynote speech. He said that in recent years the Chinese sci-tech workers in the forefront of defense science and technology have successfully scored remarkable achievements in the R&D of weaponry and equipment and tech development as well. Their efforts have realized a big step forward in China's defense science and technology.

Zhang unveiled that the progress made by China's military industry in the technological field has apparently powered the industry. Over the latest years, specialized scientific research programs, such as nuclear power development, civil aviation, civil aircraft, hi-tech ships, demonstration and verification of engines and what not have surmounted technical difficulties in a batch of key technologies and greatly propped up China's technology in military industry. The application of advanced defense technology in civil use has contributed to the technical progress and structural optimization of products for civil use and to the national economy at large.

By way of implementing the supporting conditions in the construction and technical transformation of weapon models, it has improved the means and methods in scientific researches and military technology. A range of advanced key labs was set up with channels for basic scientific research for defense industry refined and developed. Participation in the national hi-tech R&D programs and the launch of research on hi-tech development strategy for the defense industry has laid sound foundation for the future research of weaponry and military equipment and its development in the long run.

Zhang also pointed out in his speech while completing the research and production of hi-tech weaponry and military equipment China's defense sci-tech industry would lay its stresses on the following five aspects.

First and foremost, a number of sci-tech projects bearing great significance will be launched to push the sci-tech development of military industry further forward. These projects include important specialized research and verification programs such as moon probing, large-scale carrier rockets, satellite public platform, transport planes, million/kw pressured water reactor, and ship technology promotion. We will try to start these projects as soon as possible.

Secondly, the scientific efforts will be focused on key technical barriers on the development of defense industry to make a breakthrough progress as soon as possible. Substantial progresses need to be made on technologies of million/kw pressured water reactor, new isotope separation, satellites with long life cycle and high reliability, new toxic-pollution free carrier rockets, core technology on planes, engines, and airborne equipment, new ship models, ship-building, and accessory equipment on ships.

Thirdly, hi-tech industry will be greatly developed through industrialization.

Fourthly, technical improvement should be beefed up to upgrade the industry.

And finally, international cooperation and exchanges will be strengthened with initiatives improved for self-developed products in military industry.
