Pakistan said on Monday that theUnited Nations is aware of India's fencing the Line of Control (LoC), which divides Pakistan and India in the disputed Kashmir region.

Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan told a weekly news briefing here that the UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan was watching closely the development.

"Pakistan has also taken up the issue directly with India and also members of the international community," he said.

Pakistan said that India started fencing the LoC last month following the announcement of ceasefire along it.

"India is erecting fence in clear violation of the (UN) Security Council resolutions and bilateral agreements," said the spokesman.

The spokesman said there are urgency and conducive atmosphere for Pakistan and India to resume substantial dialogue to resolve all issues including Kashmir.

"Kashmir is a core issue and there can be no normalization of relations without resolution of the problem," he said.

Commenting on Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's remarks about single currency and open border among South Asian states, he said "we will have to resolve political issues especially the Kashmir issue."

The spokesman said all the member countries have confirmed their participation in the forthcoming summit meeting of the SouthAsian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) in Islamabad. He said there is possibility that Vajpayee would meet with Pakistani leaders.
