The Chinese men's soccer team has dropped to a historic low in FIFA's world rankings.

China downed three places from 83 in November to 86 in the world's football governing body's latest rankings released on Monday.

The drop is mainly because of China's low-profile performance in last week's East-Asian tournament, with only one win and two losses.

China now ranks 15 in Asia, the lowest position it has held for ten years.

This is despite the fact that China already became a seed for the 2006 World Cup Asian qualifiers.

In Asia, South Korea remains 22 while Japan drops to 29 following Iran who forwards seven steps to 28. Saudi Arabia continues its second place in Asia as 26 in the world. Meanwhile, Thailand rises to 60, up 15 places after winning the Southeast Asia Games. Qatar, who also rises 15 places, ranks 65.

Worldwide, Brazil continues to top the ranking, followed by France and Spain.

Meanwhile, the Chinese women's soccer team remains at the fifth place in FIFA's ranking of women's teams.
