World's largest ecology fair launches in China

IFAT, the world's largest trade fair for environmental products and technologies, is expanding into China with the first IFAT China to be held in Shanghai next year.

IFAT, the world's largest trade fair for environmental products and technologies, is expanding into China with the first IFAT China to be held in Shanghai next year.

IFAT China, set from June 29 to July 2, 2004, is a comprehensive trade exhibition of practical applications for water supply and sewage, waste disposal and recycling, as well as gas filtering and exhaust decontamination. The fair will be held everytwo years from then on.

IFAT, an acronym of a letter each from "air, Fire, water, earth", is a brand of the Munich International Trade Fairs of Germany. Started in 1966, the event in 2002 attracted 2,042 exhibitors form39 countries.

IFAT China will be an exchange platform for public and private companies, trade and service providers as well as scientists and technicians, a spokesman for the organizers said Tuesday.

Xu Shuyun, secretary-general of the China Association of Resources Comprehensive Utilization, the co-organizer, said as China's economy develops, the country has implemented sustainable development as an important strategy. Under the 10th five-year plan (2001-2005), a total of 85 billion US dollars are expected tobe invested into environmental protection.

"China's environment protection industry has enormous business potentials," said Xu.
