Spanish Foreign Minister Ana Palacio on Thursday will embark on a tour around China and Japan, with the aim of improving relations with both Asian nations.

Palacio will arrive in Beijing on Friday on her second visit toChina following one in July, Spanish diplomatic authorities said on Wednesday.

Palacio's tour is aimed at promoting political and economic dialogue, increasing cultural exchanges and reducing trade deficits with both nations.

In Beijing, the diplomat will attend the Spain-China Forum, a meeting aimed at promoting bilateral relations and contacts between institutions, civil societies and the governments of both countries.

The forum will cover issues in four areas, including politics, economy, culture and sports.

Palacio's visit will also help Spanish firms win contracts for the Olympic Games to be held in Beijing in 2008, and in the Shanghai 2010 Universal Exposition.

The two countries are expected to sign several bilateral agreements, including one on the creation of new exhibition facilities.
