China export products fair opens in Indonesia

An exhibition of Chinese products began Thursday at the Jakarta fairground, involving more than 60 Chinese companies to display products from television set to mini dump truck.

An exhibition of Chinese products began Thursday at the Jakarta fairground, involving more than 60 Chinese companies to display products from television set to mini dump truck.

The exhibition is in line with the Chinese government's efforts to boost trade volume with the ten-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to 100 billion US dollars a year as proposed by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao during the ASEAN summit in Bali in October, Chinese trade consular in Indonesia Tan Weiwen said in the opening speech.

"The Chinese government and entrepreneurs are keen to implement mutual cooperation in trade agreed by the leaders of China and ASEAN for mutual benefit," he said.

Some of the participating companies have already established branch offices or agents in Indonesia, like China's leading motorcycle-maker Zongshen Group and Sichuan Changhong Electric.

Changhong has been supplying Indonesian market with TV, LCD, air conditioner, DVD player and home theater system for four years.The company claimed its air conditioner now is one of the top three brands in Indonesia by grabbing 15 percent of market share.

The four-day China Export Products Fair is sponsored by the Chongqing municipal government and the Sichuan provincial government in cooperation of the Jakarta administration and the Jakarta Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

A bigger event, the China Engineering and Technology Fair, will also be held at the same place on Saturday through Tuesday sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.
