India says it will produce 140 Sukhoi aircrafts

India will produce 140 Sukhoi aircraft and have these warplanes as its mainstay in the coming years to replace the Migs, Indian Defense Minister George Fernandes said on Thursday.

India will produce 140 Sukhoi aircraft and have these warplanes as its mainstay in the coming years to replace the Migs, Indian Defense Minister George Fernandes said on Thursday.

Speaking at the Lok Sabha (the Lower House) Thursday, Fernandessaid that India had already received the Sukhoi multi-role combat aircraft in two installments and some technical problems faced by these aircraft, including those in the engine, had been resolved.

"We are going to produce 140 of these aircraft in the country. The Migs have been our mainstay so far. The Sukhois will be the mainstay in the future," he said, adding that the Indian Air Forcehad formulated a modernization plan to enhance the combat strengthof the aircraft in terms of quality and quantity.
