HK, Guangzhou to foster software collaboration

Hong Kong and Guangzhou will join hands to foster collaboration between their software sectors, said Charles Mok, president of Hong Kong Information Technology Federation (HKITF), Thursday. Hong Kong will also promote cooperation with Shanghai in tech development.

More science collaboration between HK and mainland

Hong Kong and Guangzhou will join hands to foster collaboration between their software sectors, said Charles Mok, president of Hong Kong Information Technology Federation (HKITF), Thursday.

At a news briefing on a memorandum of understanding (MOU) singed on Oct. 28 by the HKITF and the Guangzhou Tianhe Software Park, Mok said that under the MOU, the HKITF and the Tianhe Software Park will co-develop and launch a joint database service, organize software development forums, trade fairs, technical seminars and training.

The two sides will also launch a newsletter to facilitate information exchange and business partnership between Guangzhou and Hong Kong software sectors.

Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) will provide technical support in establishing an information-sharing platform linking Hong Kong and Guangzhou software sectors, based on the on-line IT Solution Directory jointly developed by the HKITF and the HKPC.

W C Keung, director of information technology & services in the HKPC, said, "The IT Solution Directory will be linked with the Guangzhou Software Enterprise Resources Network developed by the Tianhe Software Park."

Through the channel, IT solutions from more than 1,000 services providers in Hong Kong will be promoted to potential customers in the mainland, while Hong Kong companies will have access to the partnership opportunities offered by their mainland counterparts, said Keung.

"With partners from the HKPC, the Tianhe Software Park and the government of the Guangzhou municipality, the collaboration will integrate the IT resources in the Pearl River Delta (PRD), strengthening our competitiveness in the international market," Mok said.

HK, Shanghai jointly promote technology collaboration

The Business Opportunities with Innovative Enterprises from Shanghai Forum held Thursday to provide a platform for business matching and technology collaboration between Hong Kong and companies from the Chinese mainland.

It is the second year for the forum to be held, which is jointly organized by the TechMart of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and the Shanghai Technology Stock Exchange. Latest technology projects from Shanghai were introduced at this forum.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the forum, Stephen Lee, branch director (Environment & Product Innovation) of HKPC, said, "As a key industrial city on the mainland, Shanghai has made tremendous progress in research and product development."

"With the implementation of the Closer Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which is anticipated to facilitate economic and technology exchange between Hong Kong and mainland enterprises, Hong Kong businessmen should capitalize on Shanghai's strategic location to further develop market in northeast China while providing support to companies on the mainland through their capabilities in product commercialization and international marketing," Lee said.

During the forum, senior management of technology enterprises from Shanghai presented their projects to local investors, industrialists, product developers, technology buyers, product and licensing distributors for potential partnership.

These projects covered industries related to energy technology, electrical engineering, food processing, metal manufacturing and environmental management.

The TechMart, set up in 2000, provides one-stop services to assist Hong Kong companies in developing new designs and innovative ideas into industrial process and products.
