Vice FM confers with US special envoy on Korean affairs

Vice-Foreign Minister Wang Yi conferred with Joseph R. DeTrani, a US State Department special envoy on Korean affairs, on preparations for the second round of six-party talks, during their meeting Friday.

The news was contained in a statement released by China's Foreign Ministry statement.

The six-party talks, involving the Democratic People's Republicof Korea (DPRK), the United States, Russia, the Republic of Korea (ROK), Japan and China, aimed to resolve the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsular and contribute to peace and stability in northeast Asia and the world.

The three-day first round of talks, held in Beijing in late August, was regarded as a good start for the peaceful resolution of the nuclear issue on the peninsular.

China had since done a great deal to prepare for the second-round talks, with support from all parties.

Earlier, DeTrani, who arrived here Thursday, also held consultations with Fu Ying,director of the Asian Affairs Department of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
