The Fifth East Asian Women's Forum kicked off here Friday evening at the Hong Kong Baptist University, with 300 participants from China, Japan, the Republic of Korea and Mongolia.

During the four-day forum, they will have discussions on topics like "Globalization/Feminization of Poverty," "Gender Mainstreaming/Central Mechanism" and "Traditional Value/Family Dynamics."

Chairwoman of the hosting committee of the forum Young Dongling noted that women from East Asia join in the forum to work together for alternative solutions to various women's and society's needs.

In her opinion, women in East Asia should be given more participation into decision-making. "Women and men together should build a diverse and just world," she added.

The forum, initiated in 1994, has been held in Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mongolia and China's Taiwan province.
