Discussions were held on the interaction between the development of the business and the metro economy among mayors from 30 major cities with booming exhibition and convention business including Beijing, Shanghai, Ningbo, Changchun, Dalian, and Xiamen,. They agreed that the business is one of the industries which can play a key role in the regional economy in boosting the development of all other industries in a city and an area, thereby helping nurture a market, and promoting the business of related trades in a ratio of 1:9.

Statistics shows that Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou are the three bellwethers in the convention and exhibition business in the Chinese mainland. Shanghai, with an average of 5.5 exhibitions a week, holds nearly as many world exhibitions as Germany every year. Beijing boasts the biggest exhibition hall area in China, which houses 250 international exhibitions every year. Zhuangzhou, one of the first cites to start the business, has one of the most successful exhibition business in China. The influential annual event of Guangzhou Fair has helped to extend the business to its surrounding areas where market competition is quite hot for this business.
