Koelnmesse said that the company expects to make a slight profit and post a turnover of around 192 million euros for 2003 -- despite the difficult economic situation and crises in various key sectors.

Koelnmesse said the company organized 59 events in 2003. The subsidiary Koelnmesse Ausstellungen GmbH made a major contribution to this record figure by again increasing the number of events it organized on behalf of external clients to 27. Altogether, the Koelnmesse Group organized 27 of its own events in Cologne and five abroad.

In total, 33,000 companies from 108 countries exhibited at this year's trade fairs. The number of visitors totaled over 1.4 million from 178 countries. With 55 percent of exhibitors and 31 percent of visitors coming from abroad, the events held in Cologne had a broad international scope. More than 3 million m2 of gross exhibition space was occupied in all.

In 2003, Koelnmesse GmbH contributed 159 million euros of the Group's total turnover. A further 25 million euros was contributed by Koelnmesse Service GmbH, which has continued to expand the services it offers, including stand construction. The number of the company's partner hotels has meanwhile risen to 76. With a turnover of 7 million euros, Koelnmesse Ausstellungen GmbH has become a solid partner for external organizers of exhibitions, and in 2003 added a number of new events to the overall portfolio. Finally, the efforts of Koelnmesse International GmbH, whose turnover totaled 12 million euros, have greatly increased the international scope of Koelnmesse's business activities.

Koelnmesse expects to generate a turnover of 162 million euros in fiscal 2004, in line with the lower results generally posted in even-numbered years. Turnover will thus be roughly the same as in 2002. Around 26,000 companies and 1.5 million visitors are expected to attend next year's events.
