Two Chinese lawmakers dismissed

Two deputies of China's top legislature, Chen Mansheng from Hunan Province and Yan Liangzhong from Sichuan Province, were officially dismissed for bribery during the election and accepting bribes, respectively.

Two deputies of China's top legislature, Chen Mansheng from Hunan Province and Yan Liangzhong from Sichuan Province, were officially dismissed for bribery during the election and accepting bribes, respectively, an announcement from the National People's Congress (NPC) said in Beijing Saturday.

The announcement were approved by the sixth session of the Standing Committee of the 10th NPC, which ran Dec. 22 to 27.

Chen Mansheng, former director of the provincial family planning commission, was found bribing voters during his election to NPC deputy, and was dismissed as NPC deputy by the provincial people's congress Sept. 28 this year.

Yan Liangzhong, former mayor of Neijiang, Sichuan Province, wasfound accepting bribes, and dismissed as NPC deputy by the provincial people's congress July 25 this year.

According to related laws, the dismissal of an NPC deputy must be finally approved by the Standing Committee of the NPC.

The announcement also confirmed the qualifications of two newly-elected deputies, He Jinlong from Fujian Province and Liu Heping from Jiangxi Province.

Seven NPC deputies were confirmed dead since the first plenary of the 10th NPC, the announcement said.

Now, the total number of NPC deputies is 2,977, according to the announcement.
