Ugandan president meets Chinese foreign minister

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni said Saturday in Kampala that his country has attached importance to developing cooperation on various fields with China and hopes to seek new way and idea for mutual beneficial economic and trade cooperation.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni said Saturday in Kampala that his country has attached importance to developing cooperation on various fields with China and hopes to seek new way and idea for mutual beneficial economic and trade cooperation.

During his meeting with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, Museveni thanked China for its long-term support for anit-colonialism by African people and assistance in economic infrastructure. The president also said his country supports China's stand on Taiwan.

On his part, Chinese minister Li said China appreciates Uganda's perseverance in one China policy and its great support for China in international affairs. China is willing to strengthen cooperation with Uganda and other African countries, and strives to promote south-south cooperation and establish a fair and reasonable new international order, he said.

The Chinese foreign minister arrived here Thursday for a three-day official visit, the last leg of his visits to four African countries, including Sudan, the Comoros and Djibouti.

Before his talks with Museveni, Li Zhaoxing also held talks with Ugandan Vice President Gilbert Bukenya, Minister in charge of the Presidency, Kirunda Kivejinja, and acting Foreign Minister Tom Butime respectively. The two sides signed an agreement on economic and technological cooperation.
