Top legislator meets Japanese, US, Mongolian lawmakers

Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), met Wednesday with Japanese, US and Mongolian lawmakers who are attending the 12th annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF).

Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), met Wednesday with Japanese, US and Mongolian lawmakers who are attending the 12th annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF).

Meeting with the Japanese delegation headed by Shizuka Kamei, member of the House of Representatives, Wu said Sino-Japanese relations were, on the whole, in a good period and cooperation hasyielded remarkable results.

Wu said Sino-Japanese friendship was in the basic interests of the two peoples, and helped to maintain regional and global peace and stability.

Wu said sustainable and healthy development of relations depended on the two countries properly dealing with obstacles by following the principle of "learning from history and facing the future".

Meeting with the US delegation led by US Congressman Amory Houghton, Wu said China and the United States had broad common interests and more common ground than differences.

Wu thanked the US government and congress for their adherence to the one-China policy and clear objection to Taiwan independence.

He said friendly cooperation between China and the United States based on the three Sino-US joint communiques would benefit the two peoples and peace and development in the world.

Wu said the Chinese NPC attached great importance to exchanges with the US legislature and had established formal communications mechanisms with the Senate and House of Representatives.

China welcomed more US legislators to visit and enhance mutual understanding and trust between the two peoples, he said.

Wu also met with a Mongolian delegation headed by Sanjibeghz Tumurochir, chairman of the State Great Hural of Mongolia.

Wu said the two countries established a partnership of good-neighborliness and mutual trust when Chinese President Hu Jintao visited Mongolia last June.

"China is willing to join with Mongolia to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state and further boost tiesso that the two countries can always be good neighbors, good partners and good friends," he said.
