A Moscow court Thursday rejected an appeal from Yukos oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky and decided to detain him in jail until March 25th.

Khodorkovsky's lawyers appealed to free him and place him under house arrest but the court denied the request.

The oil typhoon's defense team said they would consider an appeal to the European Court of Human Rights against the new ruling.

Khodorkovsky was arrested on October 25 last year on charges of fraud and tax evasion. Critics also say the legal assault was politically motivated because Khodorkovsky is a supporter of Kremlins' opposition parties.
