Baiyun Airport: Off the shoes and belts for safety check

As learned on Friday from Guangzhou Baiyun (White Cloud) International Airport all international flights passengers departing from Baiyun Airport are required from today onwards to take off their shoes and leather belts for safety inspection.

As learned on Friday from Guangzhou Baiyun (White Cloud) International Airport all international flights passengers departing from Baiyun Airport are required from today onwards to take off their shoes and leather belts for safety inspection. The enforcement of the new measure is the first time adopted for the airport and also set a precedent of Spring Festival transportation measure for all the domestic civilian airports.

To ensure flight safety all the passengers on board international flights will have to take off their shoes and leather belts before safety inspection. The airport security said the measure is to ensure flight safety and make the safety inspection at Baiyun Airport to keep pace with international practice. As learned the safety situation of international air transportation is very grim at present. Many international airports now require the passengers to take off their shoes and leather belts when passing through safety inspection.

Many passengers have expressed their understanding and support to the airport. When asked to comment Mr. Lin, a Taiwan compatriot who is flying to Hong Kong and then to Taiwan, said with emotion: "Life is something most precious. For the sake of safety it is wise to be strict."

In addition, the safety inspection department at the airport explained why the measure would first be carried out on international flights was because passengers flying international flights have, in general, a heightened sense of security. When asked whether the measure would be enforced on domestic flights the answer was: not decided yet.
