Some monkeys in southwest China's Sichuan Province recently faced newly-issued strict rules, as they have become notorious for harassing female visitors, though monkeys have become popular among Chinese people due to the year of monkey which begins on Jan. 22.

The hooligan monkeys in a scenic park of Longchi, Sichuan province, have been hitting on the ladies for a long time, igniting social outcry, Chengdu Evening Post, a Sichuan-based newspaper reported.

Probably because female visitors are often dressed in colorful outfits, Longchi monkeys jump onto their bodies and scratch their clothes, causing great embarrassment, distress and danger.

To rectify the untamed behavior, the local government recently implemented the new rules, enforced with punishments and rewards.

They are: "Be polite and humble. Don't harass visitors, especially the females. No scuffling."

Though the rules are simple for human beings, it is really tough for the "always free and unrestrained" monkey group, according to local monkey tamers.

The domestication work fell on monkey tamer Mr. Sun, who has worked with monkeys for years and developed an affection with them.

Sun, being both loving and strict, would whip the ones who keep harassing ladies while giving good food to those who "be good".

The local government is also planning a birth control policy for the monkey group to control its size, as monkeys often scuffle and the annual contest for the Monkey King is especially bloody.
