A van accident Monday in east China's
Fujian
Province has left eight people dead as of early Tuesday morning, police said.
Another seven were injured. One in critical condition was undertreatment in a local hospital, and others were discharged.
According to officials of Gutian County, the van, overloading six more people than its eight-person capacity, tumbled into a reservoir near the remote, narrow road in the county, Fujian Province.
Passengers were all local villagers who were paying visits to their relatives and friends during the Spring Festival holiday.
The freezing temperature hindered rescue efforts, police said.
Zhang Chunlin, the driver, has delivered himself to the police, which are investigating into the cause.
