Poland
announced on Jan. 27 the discovery of a 10th case of mad cow disease in the country, PAP news agency reported.
The 12-year-old sick cow, from a private farm of the northeastern province of Podlaskie, was slaughtered last Thursday and the disease was discovered only two days later during a routine test, PAP said.
The case was later confirmed by the national veterinary research institute, PAP said.
All the other cows from the same farm would be slaughtered, and none of them had been fed on meat or bonemeal, a local veterinary was quoted as saying.
Poland's ninth case of mad cow, or bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), was also detected in the same region last November. The first case in the country was discovered in the southern province of Malopolska in May 2002.
