HK's exports grow 12 pct in November

The volume of Hong Kong's re-exports of goods rose 13 percent in November compared with the same month in 2002, while domestic exports fell 1.1 percent, said a report of the Census Statistics Bureau on Jan. 26.

Taken together, the volume of total exports of goods grew 12 percent. Concurrently, the volume of imports rose 14.9 percent.

According to the report, comparing the first 11 months of 2003 with the same period in 2002, the volume of Hong Kong's re-exports of goods rose 15.7 percent, while domestic exports fell 8.5 percent. Taken together, the volume of total exports of goods grew 13.6 percent. Concurrently, imports rose 12.2 percent in volume.

Comparing the three-month period ending November with the preceding three months on a seasonally adjusted basis, the volume of total exports of goods rose 2.4 percent. Within this, the volume of re-exports rose 2.7 percent, while domestic exports fell 1.5 percent. Concurrently, the volume of imports of goods rose 6.3percent, said the report.

Comparing November with the same month in 2002, the prices of re-exports of goods fell 1.6 percent, and those of domestic exports by 1.4 percent. Taken together, the prices of total exports of goods fell 1.7 percent. Concurrently, the prices of imports of goods were virtually unchanged.

On price changes in the first 11 months of 2003 over the same period in 2002, the prices of re-exports of goods fell 1.6 percent,while those of domestic exports rose 0.3 percent. Taken together, the prices of total exports of goods were down 1.4 percent. Concurrently, the prices of imports of goods fell 0.4 percent, said the report.
