Travel peak continues in China after festival's golden week

With the increasing migrant workers leaving their hometowns for the cities, China is experiencing another travel peak after the festival's golden week from Jan. 22 to Jan. 28.

With the increasing migrant workers leaving their hometowns for the cities, China is experiencing another travel peak after the festival's golden week from Jan. 22 to Jan. 28.

Statistics from the Chinese Ministry of Communications show that about 48 million road journeys were made merely on Jan. 29, amarked rise in passenger flow after the seven-day holiday.

The ministry attributes the travel peak to the increasing number of migrant workers moving to cities and tourists back to work.

In southwest China's Sichuan province, which has the most migrant workers in China, a special migrant worker transportation agency was set up on the square in front of the Chengdu North railway station, which organized special long-journey buses for the local rural workers to help transport them to Guangzhou, Kunming, Xi'an and other major Chinese cities.

On Jan. 29, more than 52,600 vehicles were put in use for passenger transportation across Sichuan Province, handling about 2.15 million journeys, an increase of three percent over the same period of last year.

In addition, other Chinese provinces and cities like Hunan, Anhui, Henan, Heilongjiang, Chongqing, Shanghai and Guangzhou alsoincreased vehicles to meet the travel peak.

On Jan. 29 the Hunan province used 43,078 vehicles to transportthe over 2.42 million passengers, 2.39 percent more than the last year's figure. In Chongqing city, about 875,000 passengers was transported on Jan. 29 with 21,000 vehicles, an increase of ten percent more than the vehicles used on Jan. 28.

Currently, most of China's local transportation sectors are readjusting their transportation arrangements by increasing vehicles so as to ensure a sound and safe season travel.
