China's sedan car production hit 2.07 million units in 2003
China produced some 2.07 million and sold 2.04 million sedan cars in 2003, with the production up 80.7 percent year-on-year, according to figures issued by the National Statistics Bureau in Beijing on Feb. 2.

Leading manufacturers enjoyed strong growth. The Shanghai Volkswagen Corporation produced 405,000 cars, up 45 percent over 2002, while the FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Company, in northeast China's Jilin Province, produced 302,000 cars, up 57 percent over 2002.
Another six plants reported outputs of over 100,000 cars each in 2003. They are Shanghai General Motors Co. Ltd, Tianjin FAW Automotive Company Ltd, Guangzhou Honda Automobile Industry Group Co. Ltd, Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Company Ltd, Chang'an Automobile Group and SAIC Chery Automobile Co. Ltd.
In 2002, there were only three car makers with production capacity of over 100,000.
China's sedan car production is forecast to hit 2.8 million units in 2004, an increase of 40 percent.
