E-information industry has become China's No.1 industry

In 2003 China's electronic information products industry realized a sales income of 1880 billion yuan, up 34 percent year on year, becoming China's number one industry, and ranking third in the world in terms of industrial scale.

In 2003 China's electronic information products industry realized a sales income of 1880 billion yuan, up 34 percent year on year, becoming China's number one industry, and ranking third in the world in terms of industrial scale.

Statistics published recently by the National Development and Reform Commission indicate that in 2003 China's production of microcomputers, color TV sets, integrated circuits and program-control exchangers grew faster than before, which was 30.84 million, 60 million, 13.9 billion and 73.79 million respectively, up 83.2, 15, 38.3 and 25.5 percent over the previous year. All of them had a sales/production ratio of over 97 percent.

China's output of program-control exchangers, mobile phones, color TV sets and color display rank first in the world, whose 2003 annual output constitute 30, 35, 40 and 55 percent of the world's total production respectively. These products were exported in huge quantities. The export ratio of the mobile phones and microcomputers reached 50 percent, that of color TV sets about 40 percent, and that of color display over 60 percent.
