Xinhua published a signed article Saturday calling for decisive measures to curb the spread of bird flu in the country by setting up a disease control network and mobilizing the people to fight the animal epidemic that has brokenout in many countries and killed millions of poultry.

It is an effective way for China to mobilize the people, says the article. It urges governments at different levels to make great efforts to create public awareness about the situation of the bird flu outbreak in the country.

The situation has propelled China to adopt firm and decisive measures to deal with the issue, by blocking all the major affected areas and slaughtering all fowls in the affected areas, it stresses.

It urges areas where bird flu has not been detected to work outpreventive plans and set up disease networks. Local health departments should monitor the activities of people who work in the fields of animal breeding, transportation, butchering, and trading of poultry.

An anti-bird-flu front should be established in market places by departments concerned, while quality meat should be available in the market, it says.

The Xinhua article shows confidence that China will be able winthe campaign against the bird flu through joint efforts by the government and the people.
