Jordanian King Abdullah II on Sunday called for deeper commitment by the United States and Europe to the peace process in Middle East.

The king said at an international security conference in Munich that only an international alliance for peace could solve the biggest challenge for the area.

"Some pressure from outside is necessary," said Abdullah.

He noted that the solution lies in a "two-nation" model with an independent Palestinian state and a peaceful Israel with the 1967 boundaries.

"That is the inevitable way to achieve peace in the region," hesaid.

The 40th Munich security conference opened Saturday. Some 250 ministers, officials and experts are attending the annual event, which this year focuses on the transatlantic relations, the futureof NATO and the situation in the Middle East.
