Beijing Olympic organizers on Feb. 9 launched a global search for experts in an effort to build state-of-the-art venues for the 2008 Olympic Games.
"We're looking for a chief engineer, who is supposed to take charge of the quality control and technical instructions of all Olympic projects, and dozens of experts in various fields, such as civil engineering and electrical engineering," said Feng Jianzhong, assistant director of the State General Administration of Sports (SGAS).
"The applicants for these jobs should have rich experience in related areas and profound expertise," he added.
"We welcome all capable people, from home and abroad, to join us in contributing to a best-ever Olympic Games."
Of 20 competition venues to be built for the 2008 Olympics, the SGAS will undertake the construction of the Beijing Shooting Rangeand Laoshan Cycling Velodrome, while the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympics (BOCOG) is in charge of the rest.
Apart from the Beijing Shooting Range and the Laoshan Cycling Velodrome, the foundation of which were laid in December last year, the SGAS will also build a total of 33 training venues and renovate six old ones, including the Capital Gymnasium and Olympic Stadium.
According to Feng, all these projects are expected to cost 3.8 billion yuan (about 460 million US dollars).
Beijing promised to finish construction of its sporting facilities for the 2008 Games at least a year ahead of time so test events could be held during 2007.
