China, the world biggest camera producer

China produced 60 million cameras of various kinds in 2003 standing at the top of the world, according to statistics released by China Culture & Office Equipment Professional Association.

China produced 60 million cameras of various kinds in 2003 standing at the top of the world, according to statistics released by China Culture & Office Equipment Professional Association.

Statistics show that China produced 54.39 million cameras from January to November 2003, a year-on-year increase of 16 percent. The export and import of cameras and related equipment exceeded US$ 4.985 billion, including US$ 3.678 billion of export, an increase of 102 percent and US$ 1.3 billion of import with a rise of 69.96 percent. Camera industry has become a foreign-orientated, hi-tech industry with joint venture, foreign-funded and private enterprises as the backbones. Experts predict that, China��s camera output in 2004 will see an increase of 9 percent from that of 2003.

Other sources say the 7th China International Photograph & Electrical Imaging Machinery and Technology Fair will be held at China International Exhibition Center in Beijing on April 10-13. The Expo is jointly sponsored by China Machinery Industry Federation, China Culture & Office Equipment Professional Association, Chinese Photographers Association, China International Exhibition Center and German Kolnmesse Co., Ltd. The Expo, since 1998, has become the largest exhibition of its kind in Asia. It provides a platform of technological exchanges and trade cooperation for camera makers at home and abroad and also an opportunity for photographers and fans to see the state-of-art domestic and foreign photographic equipment. Over 200 companies from Japan, Europe and America were attracted to attend the fair in 2003.
