Chinese champions Shanghai Shenhua were held 1-4 by last season's runners-up BEC Tero Sasana of Thailand on Wednesday, temporarily down to the bottom of Group E at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League.

Honduras striker Saul Martinez nipped the only goal for the away side in the 72nd minute, as Shanghai, champion of China's first division soccer league for 2003/2004 season, played the AFC opener without their cores who are kept by China's national and under-23 teams.

Voravut Srimaka, one of BEK's attacking keys, put the home side in lead with a short range shooting at 40, Aldebayo Gadebo scored a second just one minute after the break, Dussakorn Thonglao added the third from a free kick in 82 minutes and Udim Jokrob sealed the victory with an excellent solo run at the whistling.

Mao Yijun, Shanghai's caretaker coach, attributed the defeat to impatience of the line-up after the opposition took a 1-0 lead.

In another Group E match played earlier, Jubilo Iwata of Japan came from behind to beat South Korean side Chonbuk Motors 2-1 and snatched 3 points, but run after group leaders BEC in goal differentials.
