Electromechanical exports increase 44.8 percent in 2003

China's exports of electromechanical products reached 227.46 billion US dollars in 2003, surging 44.8 percent over the previous year, Vice Minister of Commerce Wei Jianguo said Thursday.

China's exports of electromechanical products reached 227.46 billion US dollars in 2003, surging 44.8 percent over the previous year, Vice Minister of Commerce Wei Jianguo said Thursday.

Wei, also director of the national office of electromechanical exports, made the announcement at a working conference on electromechanical exports held in the scenic city of Guilin in south China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

The electromechanical exports of the year accounted for 51.9 percent of the country's total foreign trade volume, which stood at 452.45 billion US dollars, a rise of 44.7 percent year on year,according to Wei.

Since 1995, electromechanical products have remained the most crucial export category for China, which has also boosted the growth of national foreign trade by a large margin.
