Chinese airlines deliver 11.2 million passengers in festival season

During the 40-day lunar new year peak season ending on Feb. 15, Chinese airlines carried 11.2 million passengers, up 16.9 percent from the same period in 2003.

During the 40-day lunar new year peak season ending on Feb. 15, Chinese airlines carried 11.2 million passengers, up 16.9 percent from the same period in 2003.

According to the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China Monday, it was the first time that Chinese airlines had everhandled more than 10 million passengers during the period.

A spokesman of the administration spokesman said the civil air services operated 108,698 flights, up 15.5 percent, with an average occupation rate of 64.5 percent.

Most of the passengers were from large, coastal and tourist cities.

The Ministry of Communications revealed that a total of 27.1 million people traveled on water routes, up 4.7 percent.
