Chinese ports handle more cargo, passengers in January

The major ports in China handled atotal of 231.09 million tons of goods and 6.83 million passengers in January this year, up 15.1 percent and 10.3 percent year on year, respectively, according to the Ministry of Communications.

The major ports in China handled atotal of 231.09 million tons of goods and 6.83 million passengers in January this year, up 15.1 percent and 10.3 percent year on year, respectively, according to the Ministry of Communications.

The major ports in China totally handled 87.31 million tons of imported and exported goods, up 14.7 percent year on year, of which 81.63 million tons were handled by coastal ports and 5.68 million tons by river ports, up 15.2 percent and 8.1 percent, respectively, the ministry said.

The major ports in the country handled some 4.2 million standard containers in January, rising 17.9 percent. South China'sShenzhen Port and east China's Shanghai Port each handled more than one million standard containers in the month.
