Four central government departments have issued a joint circular ordering a halt to the building of broad thoroughfares and large-size squares.

All cities must suspend the building of urban roads with a width of 80 meters or more and squares covering two hectares or more, according to the circular.

Official examinations will be made to see if new projects are compatible with the state law and the general plans of the cities.

Meanwhile, the cities involved shall check if their road or square projects are compatible with the circular in terms of their size, and if there are any problems concerning relocation of affected residents and units, delay of payment or illegal funding.
