Japan confirms 10th case of mad cow disease

A test by a national institute Saturday showed the Holstein, which was 7 years and 11 months old when slaughtered, almost certainly had the usual form of the illness.
Japan reported its first mad cow case in September 2001. The ninth case was found in Hiroshima Prefecture last November.
The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare officially confirmed that the animal in the latest case had the disease after consulting with experts.
The diary cow was born in Kanagawa Prefecture and had been recently purchased by a dairy farm in Hiratsuka in the prefecture,according to the ministry.
